The best feature wall is the first wall you see when you enter the room. In a living room that is usually the sofa or TV wall, in a bedroom the wall behind the headboard, in a hallway the end wall facing the front door. Put one strong design there, keep the other three walls quiet, and the room gets a focal point without repainting everything.
Feature wall, accent wall, statement wall — the names change, the job does not: one wall carries the design. We print that wall made to measure in our Istanbul workshop, so you pay only for its exact area. For a typical 10 m² wall that means 7,500–9,500 TL (roughly $170–210 / €150–180) in materials; the full breakdown is below.
How to Choose the Right Wall
Three rules settle it in most homes:
- The entry axis rule. Stand in the doorway. The wall your eyes land on first is the strongest candidate. A feature wall nobody faces works part-time for full price.
- The anchor rule. The wall should sit behind the room's main piece of furniture — sofa, bed, desk or dining table. Furniture and wallpaper then read as one composition instead of competing for attention.
- The clean surface rule. Prefer a wall without doors, windows or a radiator. Openings cut into the artwork, and years of radiator heat cycling stress both adhesive and seams.
Feature Wall Ideas Room by Room
Living Room
The sofa wall beats the TV wall in most layouts. A mural behind a black screen competes with the screen; behind the sofa it frames the seating instead, and it appears in every photo you take of the room. Landscape-format designs — misty forests, line-art skylines, wide abstract colour washes — stretch the room horizontally. We collected full colour schemes in our living room wallpaper ideas guide.
Bedroom
The headboard wall is the default for a reason: you never face it while falling asleep, so even a bold pattern will not keep you up, and it is the first thing you see from the door. Keep the motif's focal point above headboard height — on a 2.6 m wall, roughly the top 1.4 m does the visual work. More pattern and colour pairings are in our bedroom wallpaper guide.
Hallway
Hallways reward the end wall. A design with depth — a path, an archway, a perspective forest — pulls the eye down the corridor and makes a narrow space feel longer. Hallway side walls get brushed by shoulders, bags and school coats; if you must paper one, choose wipeable self-adhesive foil rather than textile.
Home Office
Paper the wall behind your desk, not the one in front of you. It becomes your video-call background and never distracts you while you work. Muted geometrics and low-contrast botanicals hold up well on camera; fine high-contrast stripes can shimmer badly on compressed video.
Open-Plan Spaces
In an open-plan living-dining area, the feature wall becomes a zoning tool: paper the wall behind the dining table or behind the sofa, and the change of surface marks where one zone ends. One feature wall per sightline is the limit — two papered walls visible together split the space instead of anchoring it.
Quick Reference: Room, Wall and Pattern Direction
| Room | Best feature wall | Pattern direction |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | Sofa wall, facing the entrance | Horizontal / landscape mural to widen the space |
| Bedroom | Behind the headboard | Vertical stripes or one centred motif above the bed |
| Hallway | End wall on the entry axis | Depth or perspective motif to lengthen the corridor |
| Home office | Behind the desk, in camera view | Small-scale, low-contrast, calm |
What a 10 m² Feature Wall Costs
Our wallpapers run 750–950 TL/m² (roughly $17–21 / €15–18) depending on material, and every order is printed made to measure. A 4 m × 2.5 m feature wall is 10 m², so the material cost is exactly:
- Premium textile: 10 × 750 TL = 7,500 TL (roughly $170 / €150)
- Self-adhesive foil: 10 × 850 TL = 8,500 TL (roughly $190 / €160)
- Canvas texture: 10 × 950 TL = 9,500 TL (roughly $210 / €180)
No offcut waste, no part-used rolls — nothing is printed beyond your wall's area. Measure width times height and send the two numbers; we add the small trim margin ourselves. Our measuring guide walks through sloped ceilings, sockets and skirting. Hanging is a separate cost that varies by country, so ask a local fitter for rates.
A mistake we see often in our workshop orders is a customer sending the flat wall size when the wall contains a door. We print the mural as one composition; if the door sits where the main motif lands, the design loses its centre the day it goes up. Send door and window positions with your measurements and we shift the artwork before printing — it takes minutes and costs nothing.
What Not to Do
- Busy pattern on a damaged wall. Dense small-scale prints telegraph every bump and filled crack under raking light. Skim-coat first, or pick a textured textile that hides minor unevenness.
- Papering the radiator wall. Heat cycling dries paste and opens seams just above the skirting, exactly where your eye rests when you sit down. Choose another wall, or keep the design above radiator height.
- Two feature walls in one room. Two focal points cancel each other out. One wall carries the design; the other three support it with quiet paint.
- A tiny repeat on a huge wall. A 10 cm pattern viewed from 5 m away turns into visual noise. Big walls want big motifs — that is what murals exist for, and our wall mural guide covers scale in detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which wall should be the feature wall?
The wall you see first from the room's entrance — ideally the one behind the main piece of furniture, free of doors, windows and radiators. In living rooms that is usually the sofa wall; in bedrooms, the headboard wall.
Are feature walls still in style in 2026?
The small-print accent wall of the 2010s has aged; the full-wall mural replaced it. One wall-sized artwork reads as a deliberate design decision rather than leftover paint courage, and made-to-measure printing is what made it affordable.
Can I do a feature wall in a rented flat?
Yes. Self-adhesive foil peels off without steamers or stripping knives, which makes it the rental favourite. If you prefer classic paste-the-wall paper, check your contract first and photograph the wall before you start.
How much wallpaper do I need for a feature wall?
Width times height of the wall in metres — that is the area we print and the area you pay for. If you plan to hang it yourself, our step-by-step hanging guide covers tools, paste and seam technique.
