A wall mural is a single-piece, large-format print that covers all or most of a wall — photographic scenes such as a mountain range, a forest or a city skyline are the real stars of this craft.
Technically, modern wall murals are printed on the same material as digitally printed wallpaper; the difference is in the content: wallpaper offers a "repeating pattern", a mural offers a "single scene". The pricing is identical too, at 750-950 TL/m².
The Difference Between a Wall Mural and Wallpaper
The two terms have become tangled in the market; the practical distinction is this: surfaces with a repeating pattern are wallpaper, while single-scene photographic or illustrated compositions are wall murals. Old-generation posters were printed on thin coated paper, faded within a few years and bubbled up. Today every mural at DEKOARTİZAN is printed on textile- or vinyl-based wallpaper material: it does not fade, there are wipeable options, and it peels away without damage. In other words, "mural or wallpaper?" is no longer a question of material, but of visual preference.
Wall Mural Ideas, Theme by Theme
Mountain Landscape Murals
A classic for living rooms and offices. Misty matte mountain silhouettes bring a sense of calm and pair with any furniture; sunset-orange mountain compositions, on the other hand, demand character on an accent wall. Our emerald-green mountain-and-waterfall and full-moon murals are among the best sellers in this category.
Forest and Botanical Murals
A misty pine forest (Scandinavian style) stands out in the bedroom, while a tropical rainforest comes into its own in the living room. Thanks to a depth effect that is easy on the eye, it also makes small rooms feel larger — for tactics on that effect, see our space-expanding tricks article.
City Skyline Murals
A New York night skyline, an Istanbul Bosphorus view and retro European streets — favourites for teen rooms, offices and men's bedrooms. Dark-backdrop city murals are recommended with a matte textile base that does not reflect on a TV wall.
Exotic and Tropical Murals
Palm trees, flamingo gardens, ocean beaches: the choice for those seeking a "holiday feeling" in home offices and living rooms. The engraving-style exotic landscapes in our vintage collection pair surprisingly well with classic furniture.
White / Minimal Murals
White-and-beige toned, sparse compositions (a single branch, a misty shore, an abstract line) complement Scandinavian interior design. They are our first recommendation for north-facing rooms that need to look bright and airy.
3D-Effect Murals
Compositions of arched windows, terraces and passageways that create an illusion of depth give the feeling of a space "opening out" from the wall. All options are in our 3D collection; technical details are in the 3D guide.
Wall Mural Prices (2026)
There is no separate tariff for murals; all large-format prints are priced per m²: premium textile 750 TL/m², self-adhesive 800-850 TL/m², canvas texture 950 TL/m². Example: a 3.5 × 2.7 m living room wall mural (9.45 m²) costs around 7,090 TL in textile. A detailed table and room-by-room scenarios are in our price guide; for sizing calculations, the m² calculation guide.
The 4 Rules of Choosing the Right Mural
- One accent wall only: A mural is powerful by nature; a second patterned wall in the same room creates a visual clash. Paint the remaining walls in a mid-tone drawn from the mural.
- Mind the horizon line: In landscape murals, to keep the horizon line from sitting far below or above eye level, we shift the composition to suit your wall dimensions — check this when you approve the preview.
- Account for what sits in front: Make sure the mural's focal element (a mountain peak, a bridge, a tree) does not end up hidden behind a sofa or headboard. Note your furniture height on the order and we will adjust the composition accordingly.
- Ask for a sample: Colours that look vivid on screen change depending on the texture; especially with dark-backdrop murals, a printed sample removes any guesswork.
Fitting and Care
Mounting a mural is the same as wallpaper: on a non-woven base the paste is applied to the wall, and with self-adhesive you need no paste at all. The step-by-step process is in our application guide, and the cleaning rules are in our care guide. Because it is a single-scene composition, there is no pattern-matching to worry about — this is the easiest category for DIY.
The Border and Frame Effect
Applying the mural not to the whole wall, but leaving a 15-25 cm gap around the edges, creates a "giant artwork" effect — it looks especially refined in dining rooms and studies. The border strip left bare stays in the wall paint, or is highlighted with a slim trim frame. This approach has two bonuses: cost drops because the m² shrinks, and the mural lives on like a "work of art", independent of furniture changes. If you are unsure about covering the whole wall, try this middle formula; our slat panel guide helps with the frame detail.
Panoramic Composition: A Landscape That Turns the Corner
In large living rooms, continuing a landscape mural seamlessly across two walls (a panoramic application) gives a cinematic depth. It is technically possible: the dimensions of both walls are planned as a single composition, and the image is printed so the pattern aligns at the corner. There are two conditions — the corner must be truly square, and the fitting must be done by an experienced team. In a panorama, the whole magic lies in the horizon line flowing at the same height on both walls; for these projects we require an on-site measurement.
Using Murals in a Child's Room
Single-scene murals are the fastest route to a theme wall in a child's room: a space landscape, forest friends, a balloon sky... Their advantage over repeating-pattern wallpaper is that the scene does not "age" as the child grows — a dinosaur valley at five still works at nine. Don't forget to choose a wipeable base for the surface, and position the scene's main character so it stays above the headboard. Age-by-age theme ideas are in our child's room guide; for after the teenage years, our teen room guide takes over.
Using Murals in the Office and Workplace
Mural logic works powerfully in the workplace too: a single-scene image carries a branded message more directly than a pattern does. A panoramic city skyline in the meeting room, an energising nature scene in the break area, a deep perspective at the end of a corridor — all three are classic mural moves that enlarge the sense of space on the cheap. In corporate projects, the advantage of a mural is how easy it is to revise: at a rebrand a single wall changes, rather than repainting the whole office. Recommendations by sector are in our office guide; the pricing logic is the same as residential, the per-m² tariff applies.
For Those Wanting to Start With a Mural
For anyone taking their first step into the world of wall coverings, a mural is the easiest start: no pattern-matching, a single focus decision, and the result is in the most "visible" category. The recommended first project is a landscape composition on the wall behind the TV or above the bed — take your measurements, add your note about the horizon line, and confirm the tone with a sample. Everything after production is an afternoon's work; by the next morning your room is another room. The whole collection is waiting for you on the categories page.
For city panorama and world map murals, there is a separate guide: world map wallpaper.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a wall mural?
Between 750-950 TL per m² (2026). A typical living room wall mural of 8-10 m² is in the 6,000-9,500 TL range; shipping is free.
Which is better, a wall mural or wallpaper?
If the material is the same, the question is one of visual preference: choose a mural if you want a single strong scene in the room, and patterned wallpaper if you want a calm, repeating texture. The combination of an accent wall plus calm side walls brings together the best of both.
Can I have a mural made from my own photo?
Yes — your high-resolution photo (ideally 3000px+ on the short edge) is printed to your wall's dimensions. Drone shots and landscape photos give the best results; our custom design guide explains the file requirements.
Does a mural fade?
With latex printing on a textile/vinyl base, fading indoors is realistically a non-issue for 10+ years. On walls in direct sunlight, a UV-filter window film extends the lifespan even further.
What sizes do you produce?
Entirely to suit your wall — we have no standard size list. Enter the width and height, and the composition is adapted to your dimensions. To take measurements, our 2-minute guide is all you need.
